Whoop! Whoop! New puppy alert!!!! (Malinois)

My husband has just agreed to me getting a 3rd dog which will be a Malinois puppy. Now I need to start researching breeders. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ooh how exciting!! What sort of timescale are you looking at?

I have a friend who is good friends with Sue Williams (of Shadowquest) and he speaks very highly of both their GSDs and Malinois.

If you are after a show line Mali - then Bijou is probably your best bet, and if you are after a working line then Smokeybear will no doubt be able to help.

Look forward to hearing about the research and the new puppy :)

Why a Malinois out of curiosity?

If you want a Malinois to WORK ie police, military, Schutzhund, Working Trials etc then I would recommend Jotunheim, the kennel name of John and Sue Rumble, in Herefordshire

The reason I would recommend this kennel is that the breeders are ethical, reputable, and do not let their dogs go just anywhere and are extremely careful to whom they sell.

They also have a great performance track record having bred

The first British Mondioring World Champion
    The first Working Trials Champion
The first to win a "ticket" in Obedience
The first to qualify Schutzhund 3 in the UK

    in the breed

with many others in Working Trial, Mondio, Obedience and now Agility homes and in police, prison and military homes.

They are also very careful to match up the type of dog to the owner. So if they have nothing that would be suitable for you, they will tell you.

I want to do working trials and possibly Schutzhund. I tried WT with my HPR but he doesn't feel it's for him. I was leaning towards a working GSD but am now thinking Malinois as they seem to be more driven .....and a bit smaller ( good selling point to OH)

Where's SB - you know she'll ask if you asked him

EEEEEEEE I love Mali puppies and I'd be interested in hearing how the training goes. I'd like to have a go at Schutzhund at some point in my life.

Ollie lies down on his side and snores loudly at the WT class. He couldn't be less interested!

I have seen Malinois and Malinois x GSD and GSDs being put through their paces at work. The Malinois seem to be a lot more driven and athletic. They are also a bit smaller, particularly as I want a female. This is what persuaded the OH.

Our malinois are really good they take to training so quick and have bags of drive. Spike is only 6 months and although hes not on agility hes better than some of our adult dogs at training class. Only problem for me is there is no off button. With a gsd they chill out. I havnt found this with the bsd even after a full days work they are rareing to go
