    Hairless breeds! :)

HI all, ive just joined and noticed a distinct lack of chat about hairless breed so i thought id start a thread and see what happened. :)

When I say hairless im talking about Xoloitzcuintle's, peruvian inca orchids, american hairless terriers, chinese cresteds... and obviously their coated counterparts within the breeds.

Lets hear your opinions on these dogs and why, do you love them/hate them, and why so?

Personally Im the proud owner of a standard Xoloitzcuintle of the hairless variety (who has a bit or fuzz on his head and toes) and I love the breed, the hairless and the coated for many reasons! They come in three sizes so there is a size suitable for any home, they come in any colour under the sun, they are intelligent and loving, and best of all because they are a breed that has had almost no human interference they are very healthy dogs who live for a long time.

What hairless breeds (or their coated counterparts) do people here own, and why do you love them? :)

i have two cresteds, one hairless and one powderpuff :007: i love them and would never be without one now.

i just think, particularly the hairless look so elegant, thats what made me want one in the first place, a woman walked past me with three, and i knew there and then i was having one :007:

im also very jealous you have a standard xolo! they are definitely on my wish list! i fell in love with one at crufts in the discover dogs. people kept looking at him, and trying to stroke him on just the little bit of hair he had  so i wandered over and started giving him a great big rub, he leaned on the fencing and someone said "oh he's enjoying that" to i replied "you just have to know how to stroke them properly" everyone seemed a bit scared of touching his skin!

    definitely definitely want one!

Im the same, i think when well kept and exercised truly hairless dogs look like living statues... so elegant and striking!

The Xolo you stroked will have been Vodous dad :) he's very like his father, and they're all soppy old love bugs! The only downside I've found to them is that they all think they're lap dogs which can get a tad uncomfortable when there standard sized! XD

Im ont sure what the crestie personalitites are like in comparison but I know a girl who keeps standard xolo's and cresties and they get on beautifully by all accounts ^^

If you have any questions ask away, Im all for positive breed promotion. :D

As a side note, I only recently saw my first fully black crested, and oh my was that dog stunning! You see so many black and white at shows... I dont know why the full black ones arent more popular, theyre gorgeous!

Not a fan to be honest, have a few friends with Cresties, and still not a fan

Dont know a lot about your breed , do they suffer the same skin problems as the cresties,:?

i like all black ones, but no they arent as popular with people as you think. i hope for either an all black puff or hairless at some point.
what are xolo's like personality wise then? come on, share!

i imagine so, although ive never had skin problems with asbo, he obviously gets suncream on, and cream if his skin is a bit dry, but i never have to do it religiously, he always seems to have nice skin.

Oh the all black puffs are gorgeous too!

Im not sure what skin issue creates can suffer from but Xolos can be susceptible to a bit of teenage acne and can get blackheads if not bathed. You have yo moisturis them occasionally but Im lucky with Vodous dark colouration that i don't have to use sun tan lotion on him!

Personality wise they're not what i expected, the standard described them as aloof with strangers but nothing could be further from the truth! Vodou loves people as do all of his siblings, they like to be around people and all seem to love hugs and kisses. They're energetic, playful and very intelligent, through only downside being that they can be a little timid sometimes, though they quickly snap out of it for a treat. I've also found that Vodou seems to pick up commands very quickly. :)

I love the Xolo's, especially the bigger ones, I know they are not hounds but they have that houndy look to me. My friend introduced them to me. I also like the cc's, I could seriously see me having either of these breeds if I were younger. Sadly no more pups for me, my youngest has just turned 1 year.

Will there be any at E of England show? We are caravanning and would like to pop over to see them.

    Have you posted pics?

I've posted up a few pics on my introduction thread :)

I personally don't show as Vodou has soft ears, but if theres an import register class then its a good bet that at least one xolo will be there!
