same Bitch with no collar on and my son with the house dogs . told the other working dog what you said and this is what he had to say .
I would love one of those collars for Coco ..lol Teaching her to not to bother folks would be a lot easier if they didnt bother her all the time..
Thanks Bijou - that is really interesting. I had no idea that DS came in three coat types. Not as keen on the longhair as the smooth. Do you have any pics of a wirehaired?
Interesting how different people jump to different conclusions. I took the "Do Not Pet" collar to mean don't pet whilst working
So is Ian out of dogs completely now? Even the Malis and WCS ? Ian is doing AcuPuncher now think he breeds a litter of spaniels now and then for the police @ gun
drug detection dog my wife works her so they are Like two Pals so if u hit one the other will Hit You
That's a big departure Met Ian and the lovely Pepper (Mali) at college and had some interesting internet chats in the wee small hours. He'd often leave the discussions for a while to let his dogs out (middle of winter) in just a dressing gown and wellies (or so he said). Personally, I think he was just intimidated by the females he was chatting to
I Dont agree that any one should be breeding a D/H Litter to run about a show ring with as they are 100% working dogs not show dogs .
Two of my friends have litter mates from the last litter of HH IW bred, both have superb temperaments, the bitch is an absolute cracker.
Ian did alot for the k.n.p.v here in the uk and he was a good guy to ask stuff about the dogs he has a lot to bring to the table about dogs also a very honest big guy Him and his Pal k9cop G/J
thats what they said about the Black Russian Terrier when i first got one over 14 yrs ago PS . but i hope you are right smokeybear
..but they are FCI recognised ( I've seen them judged at CAC level in France ) I've owned and bred BSD for over 25 years - dogs I've bred have worked as SAR dogs and competed in Agility and Obedience and I'm now working my 3rd generation of therapy dogs trained to work with autistic kids -My dogs are also succesful show dogs and I am an A list judge ( eligible to give CC's ) - I'm on the commitee of the BSDA of GB and am the Rescue co-ordinator for our breed club -and am part of the clubs health commitee and have worked with Jeff Sampson the KC geneticist on developing the intervariety proviso within my breed... Of course all this is with my BSD not the Dutch Shepherd but as they originated as one breed I think my experience is relevant -unless you count only activities which involve hanging off a padded sleeve as 'work' ;-)
this is not true here's a link to a Dutch shepherd breeder whose dogs are shown http://www.wapini.eu/dutch-shepherd/our-dogs
KC are just a lot of clowns that go after ur money you side . I am an A list judge ( eligible to give CC's I said ...I was a specialists in the clearance of landmines with a k9 unit for a few yrs. you said I think my experience is relevant me i think u are just in to chasing a wee cc or two you dont have much experience in dogs you think you have would be good if you put some videos up or photos ? just going by what you have put up i think you have the potential to cause working dogs to get a bad name but thats down to your lack of experience out side of the show ring Remember dogs were used during World War I to locate wounded Give any show ring enough time, and it will ruin any breed of working dog. The number of working dogs ruined by the show ring grows every year a man ones said this Lesson One in the world of dogs is that if you put anything above breeding for utility, you will start to lose working abilities. "Breeding animals for the shows is a very peculiar business, because of the fact that it is wholly competitive. Whereas the breeder of utility sheep or utility pigs produces something that has a certain market value, which is not changed very much even if ten of his neighbors start in with him to raise the same sort of sheep or hogs, breeding animals for the shows can only pay the man who succeeds in producing such stock as is pronounced by the judges of the moment to be the most beautiful and the most fashionable." The "judge of the moment" in a show ring may know very little about real working dogs . I think that you have the mind set of red rosette at a dog show and a bit of paper makes the dog a better dog .
