    Another dog

I'm thinking of getting a pedigree dog. A puppy. As young as I can get it.

My JRT's are 3 years old now.

I would like a dog the same size or not much bigger than them. I would really like a Norweigan Lundehund but they are rare/uncommon.

Any ideas what breed would be best? Don't really want very excitable dogs as Rasco wouldn't like them. Though I realise all dogs can be excitable.

There is a Springer Spaniel in my agility class whose owner is planning to breed her later this year.

Thank you, it's not just that. It would probably have to be flown here and that would be difficult on a little puppy.

I wouldnt recommend an ESS if you dont want an excitable pup/dog.

Can you give us some more ideas about the kind of dogs you like? Do you have a preference for breeds from a particular group (e.g do you prefer terriers over toy breeds?)

    Ok thank you.

I don't really have a preference. Don't really want a big dog again though. That's about it.

Whatever Rasco is more likely to get on with if you can predict as he is a little DA.

Lowchen ?. I'm not a small dog fan but every one of these dogs I've met has been a little charmer.

By the way I would want it to show also and therefore won't be able to have a spay/neuter.

    Cool, I'll have a look.

Ah no I couldn't stand having half the dog bare.

You can show a spayed bitch.

    I have.

But the other thing is to breed to improve the breed?

So you not only want another dog, but you want one to show and you then want to breed from her?

Show yes, breed if it's a rare breed maybe just one litter.

Breed is maybe. If I saw a puppy who was spayed that I really liked, I wouldn't pass her up just for that if you can still show.

If you specifically want to show a dog, then you will be going to a reputable breeder to select one for that purpose.

Most puppies leave for their new homes by 12 weeks and it is rare indeed for anyone to spay puppies this young, and of course a breeder will not be doing this anyway (except in certain "breeds" where this is done to prevent anyone else making any money from breeding).

Whether or not it is spayed is of course immaterial for breeding purposes if the breeder has endorsed the puppy "progeny not eligible for registration".

It means if you breed from a dog who's contract states "progeny not eligible for registration" then you cannot register the pups with the KC.

    I think thats right anyway!
