LOL...me too. Tho he is turning into a proper little boy quicker than I would like. (plus he has stolen Kerrie...she is no longer my dog, trails around after him instead, and goes all gentle and gooey eyed when he is around!)

he was told (fairly) that he could have the spaniel, and the bitey cat on the day he came home...and he has stolen my fave cat, and my fave dog...Thats seriously grounds for being adopted!

No, seriously we always said that we would have another dog before the current gang get too much older/we lose one. Pops is 10 this year and Kerrie isnt that far behind, and neither is Rupes.

    I like a lot of labradork's suggestions (especially the toller ;) ).

I think a spaniel of some sort sounds spot on, cocker or springer. Or what about a CKCS? I know they are kind of small but they really are a big dog in a small dog body! Not sure they can do working trials though :?

    Erm, Musterlander?
    GSP?

OH likes the Munsterlander...I am not so sure...reading a bit, the temps are not so great.

I think spaniel, but no ckcs. I think they are adorable, but not until they are a little healthier.

Blimey absolutely no lynching. Couldn't be more pleased that Alex is feeling better. It is lovely that Alex adores the dogs. At that age the dogs were the only thing that could or did ever make my son laugh until the tears poured down his face. He adored them and still does. A boy and his dogs, there is nothing quite like it x

I think I am going to go down the spaniel route...torn between working Cocker and working Springer.

Now just have to find an outstanding breeder that will sell to a family

I know someone who sometimes has puppies of both...or could put you in touch with someone who does if he doesn't have any. I used to gundog train with him and he is very good. I'll PM you? he is in Sussex, so not far from you.
