...........Better not mention the small furries that are brought out at ringside at some Shows on the Continent then to encourage a particular stance.......... ;)

No-----don't mention them. It might make some people think even less of showing and its participants.

I think if your considering the breeds you have mentioned you should check out Battersea Dogs first before considering a puppy.

Their are SO many of the breeds you mentioned needing second chances, it can be difficult rehomming a dog but im sure it would be worth it. Their are lots of GSD mix puppies on the rescue page of the site the mo would be worth a check their are also tones of GSD's at Battersea. the GSD is probably my favourite breed of all but sadly my place isnt bigger enough for a dog that size :<

Do Battersea rehome to Germany? ;-)

Um...Battersea are in the wrong country I'm afraid. They're in the UK and I'm in Germany. Not sure what size of the home has to do with size of the dog though, Rupe wasn't a small dog and did perfectly fine in a small flat.

Rupert was an adult rescue and to be honest I'd prefer a pup this time round. Not ruling out an adult completely but a pup would be my preference.

Thayt would be why you got a rescue then?---no wait----you didn't. Sarah has had the most difficult dog to deal with, allow her the pleasure of a pup without making her feel guilty.

Have to admit, couldn't watch the video. If it's the same as the dobes(?) Then they want their ball and thats why they stand like this.

Thanks Rune. I'm certainly not feeling guilty about looking into getting a pup from a breeder. If the right rescue dog came along I wouldn't turn it down but much as I adored Rupert dealing with his multiple issues for 8 years has made me want to start with a clean slate.

The boxers certainly weren't after a ball. They were squaring up to each other.

Think you're in the right part of the world for a really nice GSD...

I don't see the need for that, if u can get a dobe stood....im sure they could get the boxers in the right stance without that carry on. (have seen video now)

    Any more thoughts on breeds?

If I were you I'd get a working type GSD or one of the German HPR breeds. As others have said, you are in the perfect place! ;)

    Or maybe a Ridgeback?

I've got no idea, I know sod all about showing to be honest. It's certainly not behaviour I'd want in a pet dog if I could avoid it though.

I think it's going to be working type GSD to be honest. I know hubby would like one and the breed has grown on me. It's just a matter of finding breeders we can communicate with

That's if all goes to plan anyway, I had planned on a well bred dog when Shadow died but then Rupert arrived in my life.

Out of interest have you seen any dobes out there?

I think if hubby wants a gsd and they fit your bill too, then why not?

No, I've not seen any dobes out here. I very rarely saw any in the UK either.

Giant breeds seem to be the thing on my estate and on camp, I've seen several great danes, several st bernards, what looks like either a deerhound or lurcher, one that looks like a newfie and there are great dane, st bernard and bernese mountain dog litters advertised at the moment. It's very strange!

    Quite Rune.

Good on you hun...Much as I adore all of my three, it will be clean slates for us next time too. I love Kerrie to pieces, but it would be lovely to walk my dog, off lead and not worry about her ripping apart the local JRT!

When we were on the RAF bases it was Rotts, GSD, St B's and Dobes...we were the weirdos with a Rough Collie (wrong coloured one too!)

There seems to be quite a range of breeds round here. There are tons of spaniels, a couple of Bichons and a load of JRT types. Then you've got several Labs, a few border collies, a ton of huskies and about a million Danes. Oddly enough the macho breeds seem few and far between, I've seen just 2 Rotties and 1 GSD.

Little Bro's RM base in Taunton has loads of Mals and Huskies!
