    Good thread Teresa!

It hasn't happened to me but I bet it happens a lot to owners of Staff crosses - they just have quite a distinct look, and people tend to remember the older type.

When Gelert was a pup people often mistook him for a purebred German shepherd. Happens less often now he's grown up and it's more obvious he's a mix.
Someone once stopped me when I was out with my old girl and asked if she was a smooth collie. This was my heffalump of a Lab x GSD, who couldn't have looked less like a smooth collie if she'd tried  Normally though it was 'Is that a Rottweiler/Dobermann?', presumably just because she was large and black and tan.

Most people can see he's a cross but sometimes people think he's a pure border collie. I have had someone ask me if he was a Malamute once  and someone who kept asking me about my spaniel :? he looks nothing like either!

My pedigree also gets confused with a cross (don't think anyone has heard of a buhund).. Quite funny listening to what people think she may be. Akita etc... :)

My pedigree get confused with crosses they either ask if they are puppy GSDs or if they are Collie cross GSD, I then have to explain they are Chodsky Pes I have only heard of 2 people knowing about the breed but they were foreigners
now I give up and just say a Czech herding breed

Although a few weeks ago one idiot asked what my GSD was crossed with as his GSDs head didnt look like mine so mine was a cross! I told him the truth his was crap breedng and had a collie head - narrow and long muzzle you couldnt even tell what sex it was by the head

No - but Shamus the Shorthaired Pointer is constantly being described as a cross - usually with a Rottweiler.
The one I liked best was a mum loftily telling her children that he was a Great Dane crossed with a Chocolate Labrador. I`m not sure she had a particularly firm grasp of genetics.

    Shamus

And people have frequently asked if Daisy is crossed with `a Lassie dog.`

Kiki tends to throw people off because they assume Rottie but the tail throws them off - then they notice she's a bit more slight than a Rottie and with a longer snout. But sometimes if I just say I have a purebred and a cross, people assume Kiki i the purebred and Casper is the cross, I think lots of people don't realise GSDs come in white/longhaired/both!

our BC X bearded collie we had as a kid people used to think was a really old collie, because of her beard and wispy bits, she was only about 2 when she began to resemble this 15 year old BC!
