GSD owners - age and weight please

What are the weights and ages of your guys please?

I've just been to weigh my two, and I knew Harley was skinny and needs more weight on him, but he's only 30.6kg. On a plus Jess is 29.4kg, and is looking/feeling good for it (she got up to 34kg and you could see her wobble whilst running). I know Harley uses up shed loads of energy because of the amount of exercise and type of exercise he gets, but I definately think upping his food as well is on the cards.

weight of other gsd's is kinda irrelevant.....its how your dog looks and feels.

I haven't had mine weighed in ages, so can't help. Flame is definitely suffering from a bit of middle aged spread (she is now nearly ten) but with her arthritis it is difficult to get the weight off, as she can't do long walks anymore.

Yogi, I felt, was always a bit on the lean side, but has started filling out a bit now that he is 3 years old.

I appreciate this, and I do go off the look and feel (which is why Jess is good at the mo), but Harls is just a tad skinny, but at the same time, he's only just 2, so hasn't filled out yet. I find it a hard balance with him being young as I want to keep him lean to help his joints, keep him fit (he gets about 2 hours of exercise a day), but keep him a healthy weight.

Ahhh the trials and tribulations of dog ownership lol

ETA - the last time these two were weighed was a year ago when Harls was castrated, so I go off feel and sight more than anything. Just like to know figures at points lol

ahh,tis true... i find males really do not mature properly til 3-4 years of age...dogs that are lean as 'youngsters' finally fill out...eventually lol..

Well Zena's heaviest weight was 38 kgs, and the vet always said he never wanted to see her higher than 37 kgs when fully grown. I get her weighed quite regularly and from the age of about 1 to 2 years she weighed in at 37.75. She then went down to 36 3 months ago, looked and felt terribly skinny, and I've now got it back up to 37 and want to keep it this way. I can always tell by looking at her when she's side on at full pelt if she's getting a tad over, so I cut the food down. She's a big dog for a bitch though, and her mother and sister only weigh 33 kgs, but they're smaller than Zena, and I'm going on what my vet said originally when she was about 6 months old. I was told by my vet only this week that she is "spot on" weightwise, so she's neither fat nor thin atm at this weight.

Georgie on the other hand weighs iin at 55 kgs with his cushings and pot belly, although he always weighed in at 43kg for many years.

Molly is 6 months old and weighs 34.5 Kg, she stands approx 27 inches tall, so a big girl overall for her age.

I`ve had a small skinny one and big-boned huge one plau a range in between.
I reckon if you look down and can`t see a bit of a waist - or if you can put your dinner plate on their bum and it not overlap they probably could do with losing a bit.
But if you can feel the spine and ribs all the way along they need more dinner.

Do you think so? I can feel Zena's spine very well, and also her ribs, and yet I'd hate her to put on any more weight? I thought you are supposed to feel the ribs though, but not "see" them?

Zane is almost 4 years old and weighs 58Kg.
Yiannis will be 3 years old next month and weighs 37Kg.
Jenzi is 21 months old and weighs 30Kg.

Zane is way oversized. His ribs can be felt easily and seen when he turns or if he's running.

Yiannis is putting on weight right now as he's just filling out nicely.

Jenzi (for me) is a small dog. Smaller than the others because she's a bitch but I think she's smaller than she should be. She's always been kept on the skinny side of slim purely because of her hips.

Tala is 30kg now which suits her although I think she could do to lose a little more. She was 33kg and that was too much. I do find it hard to judge by just looking and feeling because she is so hairy!

Tess was around 27kg all her life and that was a good weight for her.

Same here, it was quite an embarrassment for me when we went down the beach and got wet this summer:shock: !! I'm sure it's better this way though, they like to be athletic and active, so they don't want to be carrying any extra weight imo.

If there`s not enough muscle either side of the spine, and if you can feel the last ribs I`d say maybe the dog needs a bit more weight. But all dogs are different - same as us. I`m a bit short for my weight, for example.....:002:

I have a 10yr old GSD dog who is large - around 29" tts - very fit and healthy. You can feel his ribs without putting pressure on but you can also feel his spine. He has access to complete at all times and has between 2 to 3kgs of raw meat daily depending on his activity level (gets 2 to 3 hours off lead exercise per day). He weighs between 43kgs (summer weight) and 45kgs (winter weight). He is wormed every 12 weeks. For myself and because of the breeds tendency to HD and CDMR, I prefer to see them on the lean side - as long as the leaness is coupled with good muscles and an overall aspect of being healthy.
