I like classic black/white, soft intelligent dark eyes and button black nose, but these days I'm quite liking blue/white and blue merle. I'm not sure that I'd go down the red or blonde route as far as owning one is concerned though. I don't know, if it is everything that a Border Collie should be, was moderately long coated and has an off switch I might be tempted. Better still have one of each.

    Id love a blue merle/tri or a red merle/tri or a Sable

    I already have a B&W lad , a Red ,white & caramel lad and a B&W Mismarked (split-faced) girlie :)

Double merle. I know, I know, not good and I would never go out and buy one from a breeder, I just find myself drawn to them and wouldn't say no to a rescued one.

Other than that I like the oddly marked ones regardless of colour.

Hmm, I have a smooth coated tri merle, a classically marked red tri who is a rich dark red (both rescues) and a red merle and tan we had from a pup. I would probably say in a 'beauty contest' the red tri would win but I think the red merle is my favourite marked out of the lot although I don't tend to favour red merles normally but he is quite worky looking and foxy!

I really don't think dogs should be bred SPECIFICALLY for superficial features. Boder collies were originally bred for working ability and health. This is still true for working dogs. I also feel quite strongly that the current popularity of colours which carry the risk of genetic health problems should be (at least) actively discouraged. I am extremely disappointed that the ISDS will register pups of "exotic" matings.

i don't think anybody is saying dogs should be bred for specific colours but when a breed comes in different colours people are often going to have a colour they prefer over others.

Love em all, had mother and son prior to our first GSD rescue who replaced Mum as a companion. My son's BC stays with us during the week, a mearl and as vocal as my B&W's. Lovely dogs.

I have to say I agree. I have nothing against people preferring a specific colouring but to breed with colour as the most important aspect (especially in a working dog) is just plain wrong imo.

I do love red & whites, but a classically marked b&w has to win for me. Though I am hoping for a nicely marked tri bitch from ripley(just so I have one of each!)...though colour will be my last reason for choice.
