Please, please can someone re explain what this means and show some pics if possible too. I know it is undesirable in GSDs. Does it happen in other breeds too?
where the dog should be tan/red it is a very pale colour, often the black tip to end of tail is missing, they often get mistaken for a sable by inexperienced breeders/owners sorry dont have any pics have a look at some of the English line kennels re other breeds not sure but poss retriever there appears to be a lot around that are nearly white not the rich dark gold colour of when i was a child
Try this link, it seems "faded" is just a paler/less intense version of the standard ones, it also has illustrations: Faded GSDs
Colour paling in GSDs really means the black markings reduce & the gold/tan marking spread. The actual tan/gold can also fade to gold/cream. The dog's colouring looks somewhat washed out
Some GSDs once they are adult remain the same colour, in others the black saddle fades & their tan or gold spreads until in the most extreme cases they have barely any black & can be mistaken for a sable. The majority of dogs where this occurs are female. Don't understand the reasons why but often if a paling black & gold bitch is mated to a good sable the paling in the pups improves.
