Paul Michael Glaser has GSDs, when he lost his wife & child to AIDS(acquired via blood transfusions)he wrote his dogs kept him alive !

The Late James Hunt always had GSDs & was patron of GSD Welfare until his death.

Jim Belushi fell in love with GSDs whilst making the K9 films, Rando(Jerry Lee in K9)was the son of a Germany Sieger & was imported from Germany. In K-911 it was Mac & K-9 PI it was King

Chris Evans had a gorgeous GSD that I think had fairly serious medical condition but he spent a fortune on her. Think I read somewhere that he lost her recently. :-(

From the small amount of research I have done, I think there are various levels of protection dog. Mansell went for the executive level (don't ask me what the exec dogs can do that the other level ones can't, as I don't know  ) and therefore the high price tag.

I had no idea about PMG - how sad about his wife and child :-( It does go to show the power of dog ownership though - especially when you own this magnificent breed.

I am sure I read somewhere that the first dog used in the K-9 films was a working police dog (in real life) and was killed in the line of duty? Does anyone know if that is true?

    Wiki says the same ..
Jerry lee was shot and killed while trying to apprehend a suspect in the murder of a police officer. Ten days before his death, Jerry lee found ten kilos of cocaine worth more than US $1.2 million..

Very sad :-( Makes the ending of the first K-9 film rather poignant (although of course in the film he lives after being shot).

Wiki is wrong Rando was imported from Germany-I'm such a saddo I have the DVDs for all 3 films & in the extras it explains about Rando & his trainer, the late Karl Lewis Miller. He retired to Karl Miller's home. Miller's daughter, Theresa, is also a dog/animal trainer, she handled the dog in Kommandant Rex for 10 years. She's also done the handling for ER, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Without A Trace, House etc etc.

    More research ..lol
However, according to the DVD extras, the dog who played Rando . Michael Mooring, who headed the LAPD Canine Unit and served as a technical advisor on the film, brought Rando from Germany, along with two other dogs. Rando, who was bred to be a police dog, won the role because he was the only "bi-lingual" dog among the three, he could understand commands in both German and English. The other two dogs were used as Rando's stand-ins. Rando was trained for the movie by "K-9" animal trainer and handler Karl Miller and his daughter Teresa. Eventually, the pooch retired to Mooring's home in Malibu. “He slept on the end of my son's bed every night”, says Mooring. By the time Belushi was ready for another installment, K-9: P.I., Rando had died. In his interview in 2002, published at Barnes & Noble, Belushi remembers that "Rondo [sic], who was the first Jerry Lee, was a prima donna: He was a good-looking dog with a close-up that the camera just loved, and he knew it. He was more moody, snotty even."

K-9 was made in 1989 & the next film in 1999 & the next in 2002, hardly surprising Rando had died it was 10 years later LOL

    Is that Jennifer Anniston?

That dog reminds me of a very odd film I used to have on video called "White Dog". It was about a white GSD that is abandoned and found by an actress in LA. It soon comes to light that the dog is trained to attack and kill black people  The actress takes the dog to a black animal trainer (the guy who played Apollo Creed in the Rocky films  ) and he tries to retrain it.
