As many of you know, I recently adopted Gracie who is thought to be a whippet X staffie. I understand that she would be classed as a bull lurcher? Yesterday, I entered her in a veteran lurcher class. The judge was a regular judge of lurchers, I think from a local club. She was placed 6th out of six! I know she is not your average looking lurcher so I wasn't expecting her to win. I didn't think much about it at the time but last night I was I was looking through some schedules for lurcher shows and many of them have the same rule that bull lurchers are not permitted to enter. Is this a general rule through out? I was curious to know why bull lurchers are frowned upon. Doesnt bother me in the slightest, I adore Gracie what ever she is. I was just curious really!
Know nothing but reccon a lot 1st cross lurchers will probably fall to the bottom of the pile if they're going for "good at the job" criteria - were the others lean mean hunting machines?
The reason is because the "Bull" in the Bull Lurcher was a Pit Bull! For obvious reasons they are not allowed. Of course most are Stafford crosses now.
Lol. Well they were a lot leaner than Gracie! I see. I would have thought that as you say, most are stafford crosses these days they would have started to relax the rules. Oh well, we'll have to stick with the crossbreed classes! ;-)
Got any gen on that? Would have thought staffs/ ebts would be more common in the UK - was under the impression (possibly mistaken) that breeding bull terriers into hunting dogs was not unusual and goes back ages.
