Haha I can imagine! The rare occasions I've taken Cookie to anywhere with sand he can go a bit crazy. Still an amazing effect, and IMO worth 1/2 an hours playing with such a gorgeous dog It always amazes me how well some dogs can get along with what others would just think of as 'food'. Again an amazing picture, I love the look in her face. Bet they were the best of friends. Ahh I see. So the outer hairs are black, and the tips are black. I often find hairs my dog has shed which are different colours along it and think they are great... Bit strange I know, but the way they can grow being different colours at the tip, middle and root... just think it's pretty cool Anyway, now I know, so I'm very happy. Will keep an eye out for GSD and see what I can see. Thanks, always happy when I learn something new. Another of my weird quirks
Sorry - totally missed this thread the first time around. Gorgeous photos of Kofi. He is such a handsome lad and so photogenic. Just to pick up on the point about the controversy over breeding working line to show line. Why is that? A guy I used to train with did just this, and with fairly positive results (so far anyway). Why is it frowned upon, and by whom?
What do you mean by two different breeds? Just in terms of drive? Yogi (WG showline) has quite good drive for a showline and could possibly have made a working dog (on drives alone) but for his rather over-sensitive nature That is the one downside to him. However, I do know a trainer who has both pure showline and also a mix of working and show line who do well in WT and also protection work - so there are lines out there that can do it all.
Precisely! :-( The majority of dogs that come through rescue have been very poorly bred by neither the show nor the working fraternity.
Such a handsome boy - I love his masculine head. I don't have one to show off yet ... but hopefully next year I could post more pics of Ralph and Blaze (both sable) but don't want to bore you with the same pics over and over If you have a look back at the piccie threads under the username "Skilaki", there was a member on here who had two gorgeous sable working line GSDs. Unfortunately she has now left but think her pics are still on
Not a very good pic ... but you get the idea ... of a friend's working line sable bitch (who you have already met Scout).
Came back in for a catch up, and noticed that fantastic cage set up in the last pic you've posted kirsty - anyone know where I can get a set up like that for my estate car? I like the plastic all the way round instead of a full metal cage, or the metal tailguard bit. I want one of those!!!
It is fabulous isn't it. I can ask Pat (whose car it is) if you like. I think Lintran do boxes like those, but would have to google to be sure.
Yep He was absolutely fab I had a look back at the old pics that Skilaki put on here of Cox when she was still a member and he was sooooo gorgeous!
Another couple of the two boys together ... gosh it was taken two years ago Yogi just looks like a fluffball
I'm no expert (lol) but I know some working line people won't touch something with showlines in the (recent) pedigree. I guess they view it that it might improve the showlines but it is only going to water down the working line? I'm probably not the best person to ask as I don't know that much about breeding! I love Cox, what a handsome boy! And Isha of course, she is a lovely bitch. A few more of my Kofi boy, he will be 2 at the end of next month! They grow up so fast!! Doing his cat up a tree impression..
Oh Kofi - you are just too handsome! That sounds reasonable to me about the serious working folk not wanting "diluted" working lines - it is the same (probably more so actually) in working collies.
