I love myself some Cats and Cur dogs..... Work and see them on a daily here in Texas. They are starting to be bred more for the bay pen competition stuff though rather then the woods hunting now days.

Thanks Jpepper - we don't have the bay penning as a sport here in the UK (my husband is a pig farmer, but our domestic pigs would drop dead of a heart attack if faced with a dog in a confined space!), so Rose has done agility training and man-trailing in the woods instead, which she enjoys. She seems to be really good at hunting whether she uses her eyes (she can see tiny little birds from really far away) or her nose, and she'll run forever once she finds something!

Sounds like she has a good nose on her! That's good you're giving the dog an outlet for all of that energy and drive that they contain within the breed.

Post a picture of her? I'll post up some cats around my area they are bigger build not too sure how well they would do on agility courses over here.

I just posted in your intro thread too Danielle - they are stunning.

Do they vary much? Some look bullier than others, such as this one:

How much does he weigh? He's very nice! :007:

She is quite a small size, about 60lbs, and they do vary alot, coat colours and build shapes too.

She is a great dog, but not a dog for first time owners

    She's stunning Debbie :049:

Why do I always have to fall for the rare breeds :043:

What are they like in the house? Are they territorial? Will they bark at noises/knocks? Are they suspicious of strangers? (But ok once you have 'invited' the person in?)

One of the things I loved about having Rocky was I knew I could leave him at home and he would be relatively safe.

I really like the size and build of the Catahoula's, especially the bullier types.

What are their personalities and traits like? Which breeds would you say they are similar to? :101:

Well she is a hound, sooooo we have had to work hard at recall, and also we have to be very careful where we let her off lead.

She is BRILLIANT at home, really great dog, however they need lots of socialisation as puppies so we did everything with her, puppy school, beginner, intermediate obedience, and I do agility with her weekly. She HAS to be exercised daily which is great as so do I, and she will never let you forget you own a dog.

She is such a great dog, fantastic personality, loves to play, and steal your slippers, (hourly). The thing I notice the most about Daisy is she never forgets a person, once she has met you and it is obvious I am ok with you, you have a friend for life :)

I am not sure what i would compare her to, maybe another hound, or another hunting dog... dunno really, Daisy is definately Daisy!!! one of a kind!!

I think you can compare her with the energy of a Hungarian Vizsla, German Pointer, but less nervous. And the independence and power of a Rhodesian Ridgeback. They are quit simular, the Catahoula and the Rhodesian Ridgeback, only the Catahoula is a bit more intelligence. That is what I heard from a Rhodesian Ridgeback breeder who has 16 Ridgebacks..

It is really important to learn about the lines the Catahoulas come from. There are lines, which are TOO much dog for European environment. Some Catahoulas will never ever feel happy in a house, or in a city. So when you do your homework about the lines and the generations of those dogs, what are they used for in US, than you can see if they are suitable for us. The Cowdog lines are less agressive than the Hunting lines.

Our dogs are all pretty obedient when it comes to recall. Off course, when they see a deer or rabbit go, they are gone.. but more breeds have this "problem". Our 4 Catahoulas all live inside with us, no kennel, no chain, just famaly member. But inside they know and mus be calm. no jumping, running, or playing. They can do this outside.. The people I know of who have their first Catahoula, are addicted to them..they all want a 2e or a new one when they do not want 2 dogs at the same time.

Our male Troy, he weights about 36 kilo and is 64 cm in height. Our females are less big and are about 26 kilo and between 55 and 59 cm in height.

I like the "heavier" once also but they NEED to look agile. I will post some pictures of really TOO heavy/ bully dogs. ANd this is not like the breed standert says, so it is always lot of work to find dogs which have a good conformation and good abilities to live in Eu.

I also will post some pictures of the dogs who will have a litter this spring in Liverpool.

    Thanks for the info both.

Wow - these dogs are stunning! :049:

It's funny you say those dogs are too heavy, to me they would be classed as agile Presas  (Which I prefer - as Presa's can get VERY heavy, which I don't think is ideal). Of course it's difficult to say via a photo.

Plain's Rose looks quite tall (almost like a Great Dane) how tall is she?

Fair Mate's Apollo looks stunning :007: do you have any recent photo's of him?

What kind of puppies will this mating produce?

Plain's Rose is only 57 cm I think and 25 kilo. She looks bigger on the picture maybe. Her sire is also a little man

Hmm, don't think I have a recent picture of him where you can see him in totall.. I have a small video tho! But do not know if I can share this?

This mating will produce only pups with Merle gene, because of Apollo carrying MM gene, and Rose carrying Mm gene. so only Mm and MM pups will be born. No mm, because Apollo should have also Mm to get mm pups. BUT....there will be several pups like Rose or like our Abby, solid/ one colored pups. If Rose is red factored we/ they can expect ALL colors..Red& tan, Red & Brindle ,Red Leopard, Blue Leopard, Black& tan, Black& brindle. Like our 2 litters actually. Apollo is a littermate to the dogs I posted, the blue leopards, the black Solid and our Abby ( red Brindle)

Thanks for the info Danielle - he looks stunning :049:

Will the pups be bully like him? What are the chances of them having brown eyes? I love his colours and markings.
