Well this is probally a bit cyber stalking lol, but I was looking up some stuff about Australian labradoodles, just being nosey, theres one I know and I think is great, and I wanted to see if apart from more breeds being in there what other differences there are, after a bit I decided to put in the name of the dog I know, as its a well I think unique name, and I found flickr account of him, but don't you agree he's gorgeous, I've also been told his owners got him America. http://www.flickr.com/photos/aiddy/5470739594/in/set-72157622107870900/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/aiddy/5523867527/in/set-72157622107870900/ Recently round here I've met him, and a 'toy labradoodle', both are so different to the average Labradoodle you see, tbh I could actually live with these, instead of the big manic clowns you generally see that moult like theres no tomorrow, and have so much energy, but that doesn't mean that I am actually planning on getting one .
We had one of the "miniature" Poodle cross Labs at training classes. It was about the same size as Parker my male Kerry. It may not have been big but it was still very manic! It is the only one of this size I have ever seen. One of the members of the training club who is a vet said she was concerned re possible health problems with joints because of crossing a bigger dog with a smaller dog but I didn't understand this?
My computer wont let me look at all the website nice dogs that I did see though, do you know what sort of health tests she does? Its just that the person with the mini poodle cross mentioned some, and I've forgotten them Must admit I worried too about the health problems, I think its more because when crossing you can never really be sure, both carry such different body shapes, and weight you can't really be sure how strong the joints will be and how much weight would be put on them .
I don`t understand what people want from this cross. Aren`t there loads of small hairy breeds already without putting two such different sized dogs together? The original cross was to try to produce a non-moulting guide dog. A possibly worthy aim (although why they needed a cross I don`t know) but then seized upon with glee by every BYB and unethical dog farmer in the land. Please don`t promote these crossbreeds. The only reason they exist (poor little souls) is fashion. And dogs are living creatures, not fashion items. btw the woman in the link also sells `boodles` and `cockapoos`.
Tbh though, as much as I get fed up with a lot of them, I have spoken to both people, Ewok is from America, and as far as I know a good breeder, and although I hate the people who bred for breeding sake, and I do think that there are too many about, most of whom the owners had no clue what they were getting, a good breeder is a good breeder, whether pedigree or not, and the people I spoke to, their breeders were a lot better then some of the pedigree breeders I've heard of and have experienced too. Also people can also ask pedigree owners what they want from their breed, if its just a pet, what makes their dog better then a cross, and why breed when their are many in rescue centres needing homes, its all swings and roundabouts, and as long as the breeders are good ones, I've now learnt that there is no stopping the 'doodle' phase, its just going to be a case of liking or accepting the good breeders, and hating the bad, and trying to find some way of stopping them if possible, or putting people off them, the same as any pedigree breed too.
