I love the Lost Boys too Yes Nanook is a Alaskan Malamute - and don't forget Thorn, the lovely white shepherd too ;-)
Nanook was gorgeous!! I love Mal's too (Especially Cruiser;-) ) but when I found a good breeder (before Jamie) she told me as I have indoor guineas and bunnies, I would be best not to have one, because of the prey drive...:? Oh and we have a rescue Sibe near us, gorgeous girlie, she is walked on harness and long line every day in the fields/woods and is lovely!
That's a shame - mine lives happily with indoor buns and rats and degus and hens - it can be done with training.
Yes, she also told me that cos I had a cat then the pup would chase it, but I see Louise has a cat too, with her two beauties.... I so wish I had found this forum earlier... never mind maybe one day!!;-) I just love big hairy dogs!!
Mine are happy vegging out on the sofa that they aren't allowed on or will outwalk you any day of the week..They get about 30 minutes in the morning..and then run of the garden and then around 45 at night..At wkends they get more..On holiday they are with us all the time except area's we can't take them too.. Mine don't get taken to a secure area either...a 30ft horse lunge line is a great thing too.. Go borrow Julie's Noobie for a while.. He says THANKWOOOOOOOOO
Forgot to say..Nanook is the reason I have Malamutes...saw the film when I was about 12 and developed and unhealthy fascination with them and Corey Haim!
the same with me!! i saw the film and fell in love with one. my uncle said he would get me one for my 18th, but it never happened... so who knows, seeing as your painting such a good impression ;-)
I have not seen the film for years, and years, I thought the dog was a Husky. Don't remember a white dog at all. I shall look out for it next time it is on. Corey Haim, what ever did happen to him? He and the other Corey were in quite a few films and then nothing......??
Blimey, I must have a bad memory at times!! I was thinking the dog was b/w. Yeah, I can see the Mal rather than Husky look here: http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/lost-boys/page2.php I have the soundtrack on CD, it is brill.
Thank you for the link. I am quite saddened by this. What a waste of a life and such a shame that fame and fortune could not bring him friends and happiness. RIP Corey Haim.
You can train them, they are highly intelligent dogs and it is true they have a high prey drive so you need to be very careful around livestock, but it is perfectly possible to train them not to chase livestock, you just need to be extremely vigilent and alert! They cope well with extreme temperatures - obviously they can handle the cold, but with summer temperatures provided you keep them slim and take the obvious precautions of plenty of water and shade, they are fine. We take our Mal crosses, both heavy coats, on long bike rides in the summer along the canals. We stop every mile or so in a shady spot, give them a drink and encourage them to go for a swim - they need little encouragement, especially if there are water fowl around - we ride many miles, I think the furthest we went in hot weather was about 40 miles, but we were biking through wooded areas with lots of shade.
i know its so sad he had been battling drug addiction for years apparently, was upset when i found out, i loved him :-(
just another question then... the dog in the film, is that "out of coat" because its coat doesnt look as fluffy as some of the pictures ive been looking on breeders websites yes i have been looking, got a bit carried away yesterday
coats vary at time of year and also the climate..Nanook probably had not much undercoat due to living in the hotter places
