Sorry on phone and haven't seen the previous bit about the USA. Just wondering why you say people are being duped ref hybrids? I would've thought it no prob to get one over there?

because they are :-( i have friends that work at wolfdog/wolf sanctuary's they say its seen all the time,of course you can source the 'real deal' but there are still people that use it to cash in.. alot more frequently than you think and sell cross northern breeds as wolfhybrids but with no wolf content.

This really bothers me. She was experimenting away but these are animals she was experimenting with, with no idea of what she would get. Do you know what happened to the results of these experiments?

I see, but nevertheless,I assume if people look into it properly, they can obtain a hybrid or indeed a wolf, if they so wished, depending on the legality let's say from state to state............ don't know how it works over there ref ownership of such animals?

Agreed - not a true expert - a lone breeder experimenting; whether she cared for the dogs or not - irresponsible! whether there was wolf blood or not - irresponsible!
    An experiment

Which continues to this day

More so now since groups have splintered into different 'organisations'.

    Take care.

Well, all breeds started out like that? As experiments? Look at Saarloos, he went down so many blind alleys, and had to start right from scratch time and time again.

Eddy did not haphazardly just whack away, trying this dog with that dog. She had a vision of creating the perfect healthy dog - worrying far less about the uniformity, than the health, which is how I feel. I don't give a tinker's cuss that Ben has too short legs for the length of his body, or Hal had a short back and looked very boxy. What I did and do care about is their health, and this is how Eddy felt. I personally feel she was mistaken in using Cap, her husband's collie, in a couple of matings, and i was appalled that she put her bitch Digit to her father twice, deliberately, and told her so in no uncertain terms!

Unfortunately, she had a phobia about writing anything down - hardly surprising in the circumstances - and carried all her lines in her head. But she knew what she was doing, and had a goal.

It seems to be over there the same as it is here - many genuine wolf crosses, and many not. There is no way of telling for absolute sure, you certainly cannot do it at all on looks; so to say "that dog cannot be a wolf cross because it doesn't look like one" is just about the most idiotic statement anyone could make! Far easier is to test by behaviour and temperament.

No, this is not the article which I meant. The article which used to be available on t'internet was by a reporter who visited the farm, and wrote a very funny, dramatic article about being greeted by a giant slavering, evil looking beast (that would have been Eddy's gorgeous mastiff x wolf bitch, who was the biggest but soppiest lump I have ever had the pleasure of meeting!), but ending up having met Eddy, her "cubs" and her adult dogs, falling in love with this new wonderful "hybrid".

It was a very amusing and well-written article.

More like little sh*t!! He is so nasty to poor Tai, beats him up by sinking his teeth into the hook at the end of his tail and biting hard. Tai shrieks, but never does anything worse than woo woo at him. Ben is not much better - the only time he punished Gucci was when Gucci knicked his lamb rib bone. Gucci disappeared inside Ben's mouth, and there was this hollow shrieking sound coming from somewhere inside Ben!! Ben dropped him, and apart from slobber, there was not a mark on the little git - I would have given him a good nip if I were Ben and Tai, they are too tolerant of him.

I wish!! There is collie in there, from Cap, Bill Harrison's old boy. Eddy used him in a couple of litters.

Well said!! Eddy begged her not to, but she just wouldn't listen. After Eddy had been pursued following her advertisement for Wolf Hybrid puppies in Cage & Aviary Times I think it was, she immediately saw which way the wind was starting to blow, and warned her, to no avail. Unfortunately, it was Eddy who paid the price - other people just started calling their dogs northern inuits, and the rest we all know!

I think the czchies and the saarloos, mainly the former, definitely have a future. Czechies are simply lovely dogs, I have yet to meet a Saarloos in the flesh, but I am sure I will want one of them too when I retire and build my pack of wolves!! I find czechies to be excellent with children, supremely intelligent, full of character, challenging, everything I want in my dogs. The shyness of the Saarloos also appeals, Hal wasn't shy, but he was totally aloof and totally uninterested in food, cuddles, touching, being groomed, but mad about crotch sniffing, bitches, laundry bin raiding, and anything else remotely connected with sex!

Right.... If had a vision of creating a breed or type of dog 1. I would research research research ....and have input from varied specialist sources
    2. I wouldnt do it alone - its not a task for one person
    3. I would have the appropriate set up-enviroment etc
    4. Have the funds
    5. Work out the practical details...that includes legallity
    6. Plan plan plan ... that includes paper work and record keeping

As easily as buying any dog, provided of course you live in one of the States where it is legal to have a wolf, as my friend does who has a pure wolf bitch. She is an absolute delight apparently, brilliant with children, in every way exactly like a dog. She is obedient, digs for the Olympics though, she has been spayed I think, though not sure about that, but she sounds an absolute delight. She is vocal, woo woos, doesn't bark at all ever, and is thoroughly spoiled and loved by all who know her!! I will see if I can get some pix out of him, and whether he would mind me posting them here.

Agreed 100% - except in Eddy's defence, she did have the appropriate environment and the funds - the latter to start with, the former always. She must have had at least 10 or 12 acres, probably a load more. Her husband, Bill, was a sheep farmer but he went blind, poor man, so I am not sure of the extent of the farm, it may have been a lot bigger than 12 acres. Quite appropriate really - Eddy breeding wolf crosses, and her husband having sheep!!

    Very b-a-a-a-r-f !!

Oh dear, couldn't resist that one !!
