Ohhh - well thats the Cocker I like - I can tell them apart! But this was a working blue roan - I assure you! And if I see him again I will take a picture and Louie can even back me up (if he could talk) cos he got humped by him :)

Dont you roll your eyes at me, Phil ;)

I'm only used to seeing show Cockers and up until recently had a clear point that Cockers were long eared and had the long face and were adorable and Working Springers were L&W and well a springer and the Bench/Working springer was B&W and had a square-ish (IMO) body and head.

    I now know -
Working cocker = Mini springer look-a-likes - Dexter from yesterdays walk
Show Cockers = Long ears, long face - Blue who I used to walk and Fudgeley's Buttons :)
Working Springers = well I know what they are :) - Louie's Mum
Show Springers = Ripsnortners Springer :D

There we go - if someone comes across me with a Springer x Cocker - I will scream however

I have to say this was my knowledge too, I always thought that their was a clear difference between the look of a cocker and a springer and clear differences in the colours. I knew that you got show springers and working springers and didnt realise that there was the same type of thing in cockers!

So like you say to add in the 'sprocker' which seems to favour more strongly the springer or the cocker side in each individual cross is really confusing. My Rolo (full Ess) has a friend who is a sprocker but to me is exactly like a small working springer, facially, build and behaviour. And yet in puppy training their is a sprocker who is really like a cocker!

I just love my working springer, cant imagine having any other dog, purely for a look that appeals to me!

I know - if a rescue in my local one doesnt steal my heart first - I am definately going to a breed specific and getting a W Springer - to be honest I didnt want a springer or a lab, not cos I dont like them, just cos I thought gundogs werent for me - now I have both rolled into one  now I deffinately want a Springer - lab not so much - love them but not for me.

Yes - people stop breeding springers and cockers together - your confusing me and Lynn ;) :D:D:D:mrgreen:

They are just going back to what they were originally before they split into different show breeds. A working dog that does the job they are designed for.

I like the different colours, shapes and sizes. Not as keen on the larger ones personally but we all have different tastes.

Working springers can be black and white or liver and white.
Show springer can be liver and white, black and white (like the love Isla or tri-colour which is a combination on all three)
Then you have Welsh springer which only come in red and white, have shorter vine shaped ears and are 18inch for bitches and 21 for dogs which is shorter than you show English but taller than some working strains.
    Confused ;)

I get really cross when someone says mine are liver and white, there a completely different colour. Having said that when Ross won Yorkshire Supadog a couple of years ago there was three judges two of whom have become very close friends and I found out recently the third thought he was a Brittany lol

You do get tri coloured working bred springers as well, not common, but they do occasionally turn up.

We see a welsh springer regularly, he is a bit smaller and stockier and his colour is much lighter than liver, our ESS liver colouring is very dark especially on his back and yet some are much lighter colouring, very confusing!!

The one thing I know is that i really like all springers, and the working cocker type!
