It is wrong to breed them----but is it wrong to give them a home?

Notice they haven't said KC accredited breeder, so I doubt the KC could do anything about that. Wonder who they are accredited breeders with? Very misleading to the gp.

I read that the UK Doodle club have their own accreditation scheme with gold/silver/blue awards given to litters which comply with certain conditions :) .

So a Pug x beagle (which was origional musings of the thread) can improve the health (conformation) of a pug, and dampen the workyness of a beagle....but they would be being produced for pet homes of course...Thats OK?

**That would depend on wether the breeder was intending for those improvements, or is the possibility as that is what it is, not a given, just a convenient extra.

but the dogs they are using are first crosses (If you are talking about my original example)....

**I was talking about the breeding that gives the f1.

and if the right homes are there why is that wrong?

**The ethics of the breeder determins wether it is wrong. I could provide the right home for a pup who's dam was kept in a tiny cage, bred on every season and never saw the light of day, but that breeder is wrong, and I'd see myself as being wrong to enable them to breed more pups, with no guarantee that those ones wuld have the right home there for them.

**Though I never said anything about being wrong, I said I find it illogical and don't understand it, which is quite different from the concept of wrong and right.

My next dog I will await on colour.....yes, other things are also important.....but colour will be a decider.

**Now, it maybe because my mood is one of such indifference that anything more than a half hearted pfft, is taking considerable effort, but what's your point with the last comment.

I also wondered how these breeders can actually guarantee that is what they are going to get as % wise it is not 50-50 gauranteed from parents.
You could end up with with 90% working on a confirmation of a Pug

So would that include a person that breeds a litter of 10 and sells 9 but only bred that litter in one year?

That could be said for rescue dogs too though.

My point was that Colour is not something that will change a dog - it is something That I want that has nothing to do with the dog in any other way.
If everything else is right (see previous lists of 'ethical' in breeding) I don;t see why people should not have what they want.

How many people get Labs/springers/Cockers...Ok...list is Endless....because they need them??
Really it is a Minority who work their dogs (with the possibly exception of Collies)
They get them becasue they want them....for whatever reason.

That cant be said for some white Boxers and Boxer crosses though, and other crosses that include deaf animals that have crossbred, it passes on. I used to board a cross EBT/Staff, he was deaf, and also a Boxer/Dalmatian that was deaf. It would hardly be ethical to breed such animals would it, and I doubt for one second they would be hearing tested.

Of course it cold---and for pedigree dogs.

The question remains though, is it wrong to give it a home?

The bigger question though is , is it right to support Puppy Farmers?

Its a chicken and egg situation.

You need one to sustain the other.

So from my own point of view , PF`s are wrong, so if I buy from them, I am condoning them.

You cant do both disagree with them , then go and buy from them.

Of course, thats what the thread is for!

I did say that they kept one, so they would have bred for that reason, is that ok? Selling 9 puppies, or in your opinion are they exploiting the bitch?

What was the reason for breeding your bitch?

If they bred 10 and sold 9, then the purpose would be "keeping one!
