    Cocker vs Field Spaniel

Read the lovely thread about Firefox and does he have a Cocker or a sprocker.
Loads of mentions of Field Spaniels also.
What are the main differences of a Working Cocker and Field Spaniels.
I have heard some people refer to working Cockers as Field Spaniels as opposed to the Show Cocker types.

I was next to the Field Spaniel pen at the Midland Game Fair and from what I heard, Field Spaniels work at a much slower pace. A Field Spaniel is a specific breed, a working cocker is a strain of English Cocker and nothing like a Field Spaniel (far smaller for a start, looks totally different in structure too).

I suppose when you get all the dogs together it becomes more obvious

I did try to find a picture of a liver cocker standing just like the field spaniel but couldnt find one. The field spaniels I was next to really were quite hefty looking spaniels and cockers are small and diminutive!

Yes, it is so much easier telling them apart when you can see them together!

Ive got a Cocker, he looks exactly like the picture of the Field spaniel,
My neighbour has welsh spaniels visit.
Are Fields the same size as these or are they as big as a Springer

Yeah, I would say a Welsh springer is more of a similar size to a field spaniel. Bearing in mind i'm only going on the ones I saw at Weston Park, I havent seen any out and about.

The breed standard says they can be up to 25kg and i'd reckon these were about the size of the ones I saw. They have much longer ears then cockers too.

More like a smallish working Springer - smaller than a show Springer.

i have cockers and a field both are different and both brilliant in their own ways Here's some pics of the two together.
My field boy is a lot taller and heavier than the cockers, my heaviest cocker is 18kg whilst the field, just 11 months weighs in at 26 kg

Can working lines be introduced to show lines???

I only ask because Millie looks a lot like the field spaniel/working type

But her breeder is a show type breeder all her papers checked out and she is registered as a show type english cocker.

Can you get show types that look like the working lines???

    Im just curious I guess.
