But a lot of that comes back to what you were saying earlier in the thread - breeders breeding solely for colour with no thought for health, temperament or conformation - and gives a colour of a breed a generally undeserved reputation - which it is clearly never going to shed :(

I agree to a degree (OOPS! almost did a clone of a word then:002: ) Have seen a few decently bred ones though that are a tad loopy! I think there is good and bad in everything, but I do have to say that we probably board more chocs than anything now, in fact I have two in at the moment.

She is delectable in the flesh. Interestingly, I didn't realise who her sire was until now - so thanks for that - I knew he was producing some nice progeny.

Her mum is half sister to my black girls dad

Very interesting - off to dig a bit more on our friends from over the pond now.

You really shouldn't have started that Crufts thread - my OH reckons there's enough info there to keep me amused for months

    Isn't that a good thing.

I do enjoy having a good ol' nose round crufts. Took Nyle there only a couple months after I got him, think he thought christmas had come early.

Sorry I never explained myself too well.

It was more the poor breeding that produces the poor head and poor temprements I was mentioning not the colour.

NP - I just get a tad frustrated sometimes when people try to associate solely colour and behaviour / temperament / health :( (it doesn't show does it   )

Lovely girls - both with a nice dark eye :D as for chocolate coats - they are typically a nightmare to manage, particularly for some bitches

I have that issue too, to me the correct dog is the one who can do the job it was bred for, whether or not it conforms to the standard, and the one to me that is more correct is the one that is out in the field working, it doesn't really matter to me who wins in the ring, I've tried to take a intrest, but the ring kind of bores me, and honestly if I had a lab I wouldn't want a show bred one, I'd want a working type one, whether it works or not, I prefer the working type ones if I'm honest.

Show bred LAbs CAN do the job they were bred for! Did you see the pic I posted?

This is DUAL Champion Banchory Bolo born 1915! Thats almost 100 years ago, does he look like a long nosed, racy, too lean, whippety thing? Who is right on the breed standard, well I think that pretty much answers your question!

Tbh I didn't have a lot of time, but saw that post and agreed with it, but I have let how I feel about daul purpose dogs be known before, on another thread that we were both on, here is a quote that sums up how I feel.

I took a bit off the end as it's not relevant to this thread, it was to do with the other.

Not very good photos as they are off my phone, but if I had a lab, I would want one that was from the same litter that these two were, they have the best temperment in labs that I have ever known, these guys are amazing. Not show bred, probaly not 'correct', but I love them, the people I worked with loved them, and their owners loved them.

on looks alone though I would never have a dog like this one, for starters can you imagine the looks I would get walking with this one and my skinnys  .

I can understand people having a preference - but the labrador you have posted the picture of is beautiful - and correct under a breed standard written by show AND working people together.

I would just think with that build I may as well have a Rottie, infact I know one that has less build then that dog, but if thats people's preference then fair do's, I like what I like, they like what they like, I'm glad you said correct under breed standard though, must admit when people just say that show types are correct that annoys me, but correct under breed standard doesn't ;).
