    She's a lovely girl.

Nyle's breding, like I said previously no idea. He was born at the guide dogs breeding centre in Scotland, and was puppy walked up there as well. I got him when he was 17 months old, and wasn't told anything about his breeding.

I've got Storms, shadows, and I think I've still got Jets ped somewhere as well. Will dig them out and let you know who's listed on there, as I can't remember off the top of my head.

    True!!

I agree with the above too  a good /responsible breeder will do the minimum tests required for their breed .

No, they come under "bad breeders"!

So people shouldn't buy from them because it encourages them.

Should people buy from puppy farmers, as that encourages them too?

Yep, its usually a decent undercoat on a black. Many working bred Labs lack undercoat.

Wow, spend a day away and the whole topic's gotten round to the health testing stuff as well, perhaps the thread title should change to Labradors, the whole gubbins, all useful stuff for people to read about Labs

Swarthy, I can't see a zipper, are you sure it's not just a trick of the light?

Looking forward to reading through more of the health test posts later, but right now, loads of work! Might share some of it later......

Reading this thread with interest as I have owned a few Labs over the years, black and yellow. Can someone tell me what a calflick/zipper is, it's the first time I have ever heard of it.

it's a little piece of hair that runs the wrong way up the middle of the nose.

They are not common, but not unusual either and certainly don't hinder dogs in the showring.

As I said previously, I think he's got quite a narrow head for a lab, but what do you guys think?

I would say it's more of a working head -my youngest choccie is very similar.

Lovely pigmentation, although would like to see a slightly darker eye (again, just like my youngest choccie :D) - you sure they are not related

I think he has a lovely masculine head, a few of the labs up here have a coarser look especially black ones (have noticed aggression issues in them as well)

You never know, could well be, hopefully I'll be able to find his ped and then we can find out.

Yip, I do agree some labs I've seen have put me in mind of a rotty. I love rotties, but just like I wouldn't want a rotty that looks like a lab, I don't want a lab that looks like a rotty.

Can't say I've noticed any correlation round here between colour and agression, but its an interesting thought. I suspect breeding from dogs with poor temperaments combined with a lack of socialisation and or training.

That falls into the same category as 'all chocolate Labs are nuts' - pure bunkum.

The three colour genes are inextricably linked - that's like saying the chocolates in my last litter would be nuts, and the blacks aggressive

My black is absolutely bonkers with the most adorable personality and not a hint of aggression, her chocolate mother and grandmother again have superb temperaments, but are so laid back they are almost horizontal - the aunty is as mad as a box of frogs - as is my yellow girl. And my chocolate boy, he can be made, but most of the time, life is just FAR too much effort  All have temperaments to die for.

Characters are a combination of breeding, raising and quite simply, as with people, individual dogs - where irrespective of what you throw at them, some will remain bombproof while others behaviours go off at a tangent :(

Certainly not all, but definitely the most exploited, and usually the ones that cause most problems for us in kennels. Mostly hyper, destructive types with no manners. Down to the owners? In some instances, but not in others.
