Hi everyone thought I would start a new topic as this about my situation. Now I don't know if everyone has seen "My friend is getting a pup!" But like I have said she is thinking about getting a pup and narrowed it down to three different breeds one of them being a GSD. Now a lot of people have said "you shouldn't get a GSD if you have never had a GSD before" Unless they mean because she has never had a dog before and I am getting confused? Anyways I started a topic before about either getting a Cavalier or GSD MAJOR difference I know . After reading peoples comments and advice I decided on a rescue GSD. So I am up to this point been home checked everything fine going down to one of the rescue sites at the weekend with Honey. I have told the rescues that I have health issues. So they are finding me a dog that will get a long with Honey and good on the lead. The lady who I spoke with said as long as I took the GSD out for half on hour 2 to 3 times a day and play with her/him and of course Honey and the GSD will also play together so will take out their energy levels. They said that GSD age for me would be better if their at least five and no younger which is fine with me. The reason why I have started this topic is because I feel that everyone seemed to think in my other topic you needed experience with a GSD and I never have. Though my sister has owned one and I have been around Kimba quite a lot.
I'd never owned a Rottweiler before i got mine but we all have to start somewhere don't we. I've been around GSD's for 30 yrs as my parents had them and my siblings have 8 between them now and i have to say they are fantastic dogs and as long as you're firm but fair i'm sure you'll be fine. The rescue obviously know your situation and are going to match the right dog to you so stop worrying. My elder sister has rescued a 7yr old GSD a few months ago as the dogs owner died and she really is a sweetheart i would of had her myself
Thank you very much JackieandMia I feel a lot beeter now Yes that is what I thought! Yes I know you have to be firm but fair with any dog you have to be. Coincidently the woman who is dealing with my case has two Bichons and she says there a lot harder work and pull her more than her GSD. Aww glad the GSD has gone to a good home
I had a Cocker Spanial as well as my Rottweiler but lost her in Jan aged nearly 13 and they both have their good and bad bits. You mention pulling i used a halti on my Spanial but my Rottweiler i can normally walk on 1 finger. Every dog is different i really don't think anyone can say that breed isn't for you. When i first got my Rottweiler my late Mum bless her went into a state of panic thinking i would never cope as i'm a small quiet type of person but she didn't admit to me what she thought until she saw how well i did manage then she did. I am really sorry that you lost your dog must of been horrible. She has out of the majority stopped the worst past is the first five minutes of the walk. Yeah I think that is wrong for people to say which dog is or is no right for you. I am glad she told you that Many thanks JackieandMia I will let you know and thank you x
