Actually - Sorry .....I have just recalled someone with 2 bitches.....(well one is a Ute) both are rescues, Both have separation issues and one has an aggression issue.

Same reason others own A.B or C breed, because they like them, and they fit into their lifestyle!

I think breeders have to be excluded in the numbers, to get a true account.

I love the dogs, just as people have said, as others have fallen for their chosen breed or type.

I don't have a NI, but agree with this, espcially the last bit , different people, different wants or needs, different dogs, I have known people with multiple NI's, and people who say that they would never get another one, and one who would never call their dogs NI, but crosses, but its the relationship between dogs and owners, 9/10 people I see have more then one dog, most have the same breeds/types, I don't think its just s NI thing, its that people fall in love with a type, and that type/breed is perfect for them, so its comes almost natural to get another of the same breed/type.

yep totally agree with that, i dont have NI but i do have utes, 2, both males and both very muched loved by me and my family. Both my dogs fit in well with my lifestyle and are both very loving well socialised and well trained dogs. The reason i got my second one is quite simple..... 1 is never enough lol, they are very addictive dogs xx,

I think I seem to be in a different place...lol....I have two young children and meet every morning with other mums to exercise our dogs just after school drop off, and also ourselves :0) There are 5 of us that meet but I also know of another handful that exercise at different times that are very happy just having one dog. Maybe the average household changed ? Not sure when. Dad, Mum, two children and the family dog.
I'd love to have another but it's down to quality of life....I put 100% into the one I have.
I found a breed that was right for me...I love the walks/runs...never been fitter, I love the training, isn't easy but we do our best and it works for us.
I think some dogs also mirror their owners......hyper person will make the dog hyper....does any one else agree?....I thought I'd have a hyper dog because of the kids..then I realised I have two laid back kids....just as I'm easy going and pretty laid back too. I see all sorts of dogs that aren't allowed off lead because of recall or unfriendliness..I've been told many times how happy my NI comes across....The breed is my choice and he works for us as a family. Wouldn't have it any other way and each of my friends will say the same about their dog/breed and I repect that :0)

But what you're describing isn't unique to ni's. Storm my mature entire male lab will allow me to bring dogs of any breed or sex into his territory, he is very laid back, take everything in his stride etc etc, though he doesn't suffer with seperation issues thankfully.

The reason why some people get more than 1 ni, is the same reason I suspect some owners of labs, gsds, bcs, sibs, mals, rotties, sbts, dallies, greys, jrts, csvs, beaucerons etc, decide to get another of their chosen breed. That being they'e had a good experience with that breed/the breed is right for their lifestyle, and not because the breed is some how in some way more special/perfect than all the hundreds of other breeds around. Which rightly or wrongly, is the impression I seem to get from some ni owners. Not saying your one of them btw.

Our chosen breeds are special/perfect to us, but just because another breed isn't, doesn't make that breed inferior.

No, a sweeping generalisation would have been me saying all ni owners come across like that, which I didn't, because it isn't true.

I said, some, not all, not the majority, simply some. So not a sweeping generalisation at all is it?

Of course NIs are no more special than Setters, GSDs, Samoyeds, Flat Coats or all of those other breeds I would love to own and have considered owning. But they do seem to have a different attitude to a lot of other dogs.

Having lots of dogs here with me all the time of many many different breeds I can quite easily say that they are all completely different and lovely in their own ways. But Kiba's attitude towards life just fits well with my partner and I and having watched him with other breeds and then with our foster NIs I think he would appreciate the company of his own breed/type as they seem to play totally differently to any of the other dogs I've had here.

I think dogs of similar type find more - not sure if pleasure is the right word - in playing with the same type.

I have a friend with 2 Labs and a BC - the bc just does not seem to be able to get into the right stride when playing with the labs -so has given up - but the labs have continued to play one is 7 the other 6 and the BC is coming up to 4.
Similar breeds will have similar play styles and 'know' each other better.

(PS - my friend is getting another BC next time )

-nodnod- that's what I meant it's lovely to watch a group of dogs of the same breed play together. They know the limits without being told and you can have 50+ of them all together and not a single fight will break out. Kiba's missing out last foster dog who left us last Sunday, he's been very clingy and whiney for the past few days, even though I have other dogs in it just seems like it's not the same for him.

How do yours play? I know you have a lot of different breeds and crossbreeds, do you find the similar types play differently with one another than with the rest?

... my csv loves playing with staffie types best :?my ni x rotties..but oddly enough both dont like strange collies that much ....my ni doesnt care as long as it has a willy lol.

Inka has never liked collies, not in an agressive way, but prefers to avoid collies...
he not so much has a thing about willys, but certainly knows he has one pmsl x

Freya has a bad thing for Labradors.. it seems to provoke a more extreme reaction.

The first time she ever had a negative reaction with another dog was completely out of the blue at about 9-10 months old over a chocolate Labrador pup... and it`s remained with her.

We always have 2 dogs at a time and while we have so far had Labs we did have one that would not tolerate any other dog apart from her sibling.

I think it is a case of many people finding that 2 dogs of the same breed are not double the trouble and effort but good company and if you have a breed you like then why not stick to that?

I love the NI's and am not suprised how popular they are; they are wonderful dogs in temperament and looks. All breeds and crossbreeds have the odd exceptions after all.

i have 2 NI girlies, i would never get another breed now as they tick every box for me. our family have always had more than one dog, i grew up with gsd's, gsd crosses, daxies (my nan will only have daxies, although she'd have an NI if they were'nt so furry lol) and bitsas (bitsa this bitsa that). i've also had a rehome lab who lives with my ex and is a working gun dog, and i must admit when he lived here he could'nt keep up with xero's playing. i've been to quite a few shows and its lovely to see all the dogs playing together. i will be having another NI aswell, another girly. i love my girls so much and they are fantastic with my daughter (who wants NI's when she has her own house lol) and fantastic with her friends when they visit. they are the right breed for my family
my ex always had loads of labs growing up, he loves my girls (xero being his baby) and wants an NI himself very soon, he's smitten with the breed lol x

Well at the end of the day we are presumably all happy with our choice of dogs and that is what matters.
