The nice white ones tend to look more like fluffy white GSDs, IMO.
But that may be as I am not a fan of the short coated white NIDs.

I wonder who bred this lad:?:

I have seen seen the advert myself. All the longer coated whites I have seen have been nice looking dogs, there are not that many about though, compared with the short coats and other colours.

I agree ref someone decent getting him, lets keep our fingers crossed xxxxx

Heehee no worries. When we first looked into the breed we'd never have imagined having a white either! But here he is, larger than life and owner of my heart.

I love your dogs' colours :049: Kaliska is one of my all time favourite NIs!

BD I dislike abny generic claims about a breeds temperment. It just sets people up to fail imo if they get a dog that dioesn't conform to the breed temperment and then feel out of their depth.
I think sayiong any breed is none guardy/submissive/none aggressive is silly. All dogs will have indivadual variations in dominance tendancies and ultimatly one person's definition of dominant behaviour may be very different from another.
E;G lay person versus someone who works with aggressive dogs.

I agree any x breeding will throw up some interesting differences (e;g an independant and guardy dog for example) but I don't think its the horrendouse thing many people think it is. After all they were all mutts at some point in their genetic history.

With regards to my personal interest. I suppose the x breeds (of csv) do generate more business for me simply because they are more common. I don't have an issue with them because they seem to be fairly sound dogs (temp/health wise). I'm sure if their were more csv's around I'd be dealing with more csv than csv xs.
My experience of half csv dogs (regardless of the other breed) has been good. I find tham a pleaseure to train and handle. Yes I use my prefered method on them but then I would do on any dog or for that matter wolf!
I don't see how its any danger to them as a breed. After all if they can't be trained the reputation will be screwed and people will get them for the wrong reasons (hard dog ect).
I will keep you updated on the csv someone wants me to work with if you interested.

I knew the lady quite well who started off the whole "wolf look-alike" breeding back in the 80's, long long before they were ever known as Northern Inuits and long before the split and the emergence of Utonagans, Tamascans, etc etc. Over this time I must have met hundreds of these dogs, and never, ever, ever once have I ever met one - dog, or bitch, neutered or entire - who one could honestly and truthfully be described as being "a good guard dog". I just don't believe it ... if the dog had some GSD in its cross, then maybe ... but by far the most likely explanation is that the dog is quite simply a GSD, or a very large percentage of GSD.

Doubtless a lovely dog, but to describe it as a Northern Inuit would be stretching the truth far too far imo, and be a flagrant breach of the Trade Descriptions Act.

    Hi Gnasher

Just wondering if you have any pics of dogs further back in the pedigrees or even pics from before pen was put to paper? I am sure alot of us would love to see these dogs.

Ref the dog in the advert, it would be good if we knew his pedigree, the advert says full pedigree and reg papers avaliable.

There is a big difference Tassle, as I certainly don't need to tell you, between being a good guard dog and being just plain aggressive. I know several Northern Inuits who are just that ... particularly male on male. I am not being breedist here, but I can honestly say hand on heart I cannot think of an aggressive Utonagan, but I certainly can think of several NI's.

I may have - going back to when we first met up with Eddy in about 1993/4? I will have to wade back through our old photos and see what I can find. Many of them OH has put onto Photo Elements, but many are still in boxes upstairs.

I would certainly agree, there is a big difference between a guard dogs and (especially a dog-) aggressive dog....as to there being a difference in the NIs and Utes - I am not sure as the ones I have been to see people never seem to be 100% sure what they are.

But to be honest - if the GSD vocals are going to come out, then I have no doubt they would make good guard dogs.

I think NI make great guard dogs for the easily fooled, they are big looking dogs and so have big dog barks. This has been enough to deter a few of the local yobs when out with my pair. They hear the barks and woo woos see the big dog but dont seem to notice the wagging bums. I have done nothing to change there ideas about them either.

I hope this boy finds a nice new home x
