Surely if she's owned dogs and bred before, she knows that bitches' tubes aren't tied? Anyone that naive about the reproductive systems of dogs has no place bringing more into the world. And surely friends and relatives aren't seriously having a 'couple' of puppies each?
I would leave people that ignorant to drown in their own stupidity, if it weren't for the dogs' lives suffering as a result.

I'd also question her vet's ethics. Unless the OP has some deeply-held religious beliefs about the termination of life.

poor girl, she is too young and a rescue! and you have already had a litter of crossbreed pups! things like this make me so angry! just take a walk around a rescue centre, and see all the sad faces looking back... and you adding to that problem.

Maybe I'm a little dense but could you explain the bridges and goats comment lpease?

Firstly, you say there is a gap in your fence. Any responsiblle owner would check fences and hedges before taking in a dog to ensure they can't escape. Since your girl got through the fence, have you had it repaired?

Also, most rescues spey their bitches before rehoming. If not, there's usually an agreement that the new owner will get it done within a certain time. Also, I doubt any decent rescue would rehome an entire bitch with an entire male living in the same house.

There will also be a section of the contract that states you will not breed from your new rescue dog. I hope for your sake,Natasha, that the rescue doesn't sue you for breach of contract. Otherwise that on top of vets fees, particularly with such a high risk of losing your bitch after a lot of veterinary intervention may well mean you either have to remortgage or declare yourself bankrupt.

TBH - I think you should have your bitch rehomed to someone who will care for her properly.

I wish your girl a lot of luck. She's going to need it.

Sorry but this could have been avoided( if it actually happened of course) and could be a matter of life or death for the bitch staffy! I am certainly not so blase

theres accidents and there is out and out rank stupidity but there is also I believe 'accident with intent'

The poor dog did look terrified in the picture and I dont think it looked the youngest, but then that just might be the quality of the picture/markings?

I get the impression that the poor thing didnt actually come from a rescue centre either? It was abandoned? Hmmm....

I agree accidents do and can happen, How you deal with them is what makes you a responsible breeder/owner.
