    How's that for alliteration !!

I've trained a similar cross to yours and he was lovely! Really nice natured genuine desire to please type of dog.

He was the colour of a black and white husky with the coat length of a samoyed. Very striking looking dog.

The owners had him clipped to help with the moulting!

I agree with the idea that buying a puppy, any puppy, is a lottery. You really can't be sure what you are going to get. Even if the parents can be traced back to the sailing of the mayflower, you cant guarantee anything about any pups temperament, coat, etc. You might have a better approximation of the possible results with some purebreds, but mutts are wonderful and special and need love too! The OPs pup is gorgeous! Can't wait to see her all grown up! I have an ACD X Collie and OMG the hair!

I take her to classes, just puppy classes at the moment because the trainer felt she needed to socialise more (not because she is aggressive - quite the opposite, she is too submissive and did not know how to play with other puppies), she is very eager to please at the classes and at home, not so good when outside (too many smells and exciting things) and will now play very well, so in a couple of weeks she will go up to the beginners obedience class.
Her coat has posed no problems so far, it is thick underneath and beautifully glossy and soft on the top, no moulting at all so far (waiting for that one to hit us)

Sorry just had to point out that clipping does not reduce moulting - it changes the texture of the coat, makes it denser and makes the dog overheat in hot weather as cool air cannot reach the skin. Double coated dogs shouldn't be clipped. You can't beat a good blaster to get the coat out and a coat king and rake to finish the job. The coat will function properly and look attractive. If people don't want to deal with moulting they shouldn't buy northern breeds (or labs or GSDs):)

You'll know when it does lol. A family member used to have a sam and they said that you'd be eating the hair when it molted.

Good luck with the training/socialisation, she'll get there eventually.

Makes me wonder, what kind of person would agree to clip those kinds of dogs.

Ref blasters, good for getting the hair off the dog, and off yourself afterwards lol.

That will have been my thread then that brought you here

It's the deliberate breeding and charging extra £££ for a 'new/rare' breed that I have problems with most of all.

I have 2 first crosses myself, collie x springer and dal x lab.

The collie springer looks more collie and acts more springer, he used to be a right live wire when younger but has calmed down a lot now he's an older gentleman. :002:

The dal x lab eats everything, my table and chairs, my walls, she counter surfs, she chews everything she can get her grubby little face on...from the worst points of the lab side, then she is high energy, she needs constant stimulation, she's a bit insane...worst points from the dal side. But she's also very loyal, easy to train, very fit, friendly, outgoing, a proper character, excellent recall, very clever...best points from both breeds mixed.

Even in purebreds you can get the bad points of the breed, the good, or a mix of both. My weim is very highly strung, nervous of new people/dogs/situations, very aloof, over protective, very high energy, these traits she seems to have received in their maximum capacity, even with good breeding, it's still luck of the draw. On the plus side she is the most loyal dog I have ever had/likely to have and he devotion towards me and her family is second to none.

So don't take it to heart, people become more concerned when two more 'difficult' breeds are crossed as there is more chance of a very difficult dog coming out at least once in the litter, and someone has to have it and most people who crossbreed like this have little concern over where pups end up and matching the right pup with the right owner e.t.c. So there is more chance of someone having a difficult dog and not being able to cope and having no-where to turn e.t.c.

Also, there are enough breeds in the world without people wanting to create more and that is only IMO, I have 2 crosses, one is a rescue and one was an accidental mating, neither of them are a 'sprollie' or a 'dalmador' deliberate breeding which 99.9% of the time is to make money and nothing more.

I totally agree, I have no intention of clipping or cutting her coat as I have read about the way the double coat works - at the moment she brushes up just fine once a week with about a plum sized amount of hair coming out altogether, but I am sure that I will need a better brush when she does blow!! What is a blaster?

The breeder where we got Missy was certainly one of these, we were not after a specific breed or cross, but liked the look of the puppies advertised and looked up the two breeds and went from there, but the people were not interested in where we lived, what sort of home she was going into or any of those details,(we did give this during the course of talking, but it was never asked for) they did not even ask for our address. They did say that we could call for any advice at any time, but I have gone to more reputable sources for advice. I would not go back to them again but I was so smitten with Missy that we did buy her from them. (I know this is not the correct course of action with these breeders as it just encourages them to breed more)

Blaster, uses high pressured air to blow exxess water and hair from a dogs coat, and then the dog hair off the human lol.

Hal would never have tolerated it - he hated being groomed, brushed or any variations on the theme. Tai however loves it and I am not sure whether I dare admit this ... but he loves to be vacuumed! (No dirty thoughts here please girls, this is straight!!). I use the round brush attachment on my Dyson which is very gentle and he loves it. I am not sure whether it is bad for his coat, I have only ever done it once, but he really loved it!

I like the sound of the blaster - that sounds like a good idea after a long run along the canals.

    I LOVE my blaster :)

The dogs are not so keen though. Jasper loves it - its like a massage for him - but the youngsters are not as keen.
