At Teddy's first Puppy socialisation class last week, the most vocal and playful pup there was the little Blue Staffy. The two Labs were also very noisey too but the Staffy was tearing around like a pup posessed:shock:

He looked sweet- bless him, but I do think the owners could have reined him in a bit- it took the practice nurse to do the job, they just sat there with a vacant grin on their faces. All the other pup owners seemed to be on the ball.

We shall see what happens this week. For the record, Teddy was a bit on the shy side and hid under my chair, but I think that may have been because they were ALL bigger than him, although he did make friends with a lovely GSD and a little Collie dog:)

this is what I did with my rottie pups, its the whole reason Darcguard training club started, while it helped my pups, its done nothing for the breed as a whole though,
I did once bring it up at a meeting at a rottie show, eg if more breeders did on going training and offered on going help things may improve, even better if we worked closer together so dogs being homed in other parts of the country could be home checked by breeders in that area and have the support of breeders training in that area ,.......yada yada...........
It never happened though  nuff said.

to improve the image of staffs I would think getting the neds out of the breed would be the main starting point,

I think neds find the breed easy to obtain, not much cost involved, so im guessing its not the top breeders who are supplying the the neds,

Staffs play rough, but that does not mean their owners cannot step in and encourage manners. Strange my Staff pups have always been a bit on the shy side at puppy class to the extent I have to sit on the floor ;) but all turned out well adjusted maybe its the vibes the owners give off too. Staffs can be a bit manic but need to gently be encouraged to play nicely, and the idea is you are much more interesting as an owner than anything on two legs or four. Fur or feather.....early education is easy education with Staffs.

i think a lot of problems could be solved if all breeders had to be registered and had to make sure that all pups were neutered. Its irresponsible rehoming and irresponsible ownership that has given staffies bad names.

i mean all breeders of any animal and breed now not just staffy breeders!

my pup has a bit of staffy (along with most other dog types) in him, but as he is brindle even though he is not staffy shaped everyone picks up on that first. One lady asked me if he was registered on the dangerous dogs act while he licked her leg! i felt like saying no he isnt dangerous but i could be if you push me!

I have a staffy he's an absolute babe and a great ambassador for the breed. I think it's up to all responsible owners to have an impeccably behaved dog to improve the image of any breed.
Here he is being savaged by an 8 week old Pug,

He's so tolerant and welcoming to any dog that comes in, when Milan my rescue Dobermann arrived she was wary and reactive and not afraid to use her teeth but Diesel had her feeling at home in no time, offering her his bones, his toys and even his ball which he would normally guard with his life. So although normally he's like a bull in a china shop on speed he instinctively knows when he needs to be gentle and nurturing, bless him. I'm very proud of my little tank
