Wise words indeed ... and I have just read what Ripsnorter and Magpye wrote, and well done you guys too.

I have thought long and hard about this whole "letting huskies, mals, etc. off the lead", weighed up the pros and the cons, really tried to remain neutral during this process etc. etc.

And my conclusion is still the same. I will not confine ANY dog, irrespective of breed, to a life on the leash. Bearing in mind the very real fact that northern breeds perhaps more than most have a real propensity for "going deaf" when they are hot on the heels of prey, and taking sensible precautions near roads etc. etc., I stand by my original advice advices and statements - that you CAN let these types of dogs off the lead. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, because as any husky or mal owner knows, these are not the easiest of dogs to train to have a good recall, but train them you jolly well can, because I have done it and I certainly do not consider myself to be an expert dog trainer by any manner or means.

I did not say that they are hard to train, just the opposite actually in many respects, but they ARE hard to train to have a good recall.

But you can do it, with hard work, consistency and dedication.
