Could you explain how you think it would be the perfect mix? I'm genuinely interested as the deliberate crossbreeding of dogs, naming them ridiculous names and then charging the earth for them is one of my (many ) gripes
Well according the the dog breeds info page and a quick google search, there is such a thing as a 'Doodleman' deliberate cross breed... No sign as to what the purpose of this cross might be... A more hypoallergenic guard dog? For people worried about burglars with allergies? They look cute enough sort of stocky rough haired or curley coated lurchers.... Oh and Sir Riley needs a bridge to hide under to listen out for other forummers trip trapping over.
He is an american so maybe there are worried about your burglar suing home owners for discomfort due to dog allergies!
I hate to let all of you down. I'll admit to raising the ire of many in my first 2 appearances. This is a dog forum and i'll respect that all breeds are loved by different people. I do love all of your passion for your breeds. I'll admit i am a little overwhelmed with UK on everyone's sig. Thats fine seeing how half my family is still in either IRL or the UK. I stumbled upon this forum in search of info for my own breed. After seeing a doodleman in person i couldn't help but see a little resemblence of my own breed, the IW. It seemed as if it was almost a 3/4 size version of the IW. After researching and learning more, it obviously would have a longer life span and a little less worries associated with it. The simularities end there. I still find it an interesting mix. Mongrel, what ever. But still for sake of being a pet, interesting. I would hope that you all can be open to a different way of seeing and saying things without being put back. As for my views in the other threads they are not that drastic. In my future threads, i shall tread a little softer with less brashness as not to wear out my welcome so quickly. Thanks for all your feedback and i hope for continued success with your pups.
IW... Is that an Irish Wolfhound? They are gorgeous... I have always had cross bred dogs.. Got Ben - a Great Dane X Rhodesian Ridgeback... The photos are beautiful... They look just like small Irish Wolfounds...
Standard Poodles make excellent guard dogs in fact a police dog trainer trained one up to do man work! The policemen all started laughing until they realised they couldn't get past the dog as it was far quicker than any of the traditional breeds. They also come in black and tan so no need to cross! Becky
Hehehe...So I had to look them up and I must say they are cute! I wouldn't pay that much for them, and I'm pretty sure I could find one similar in a shelter somewhere, or on petfinder without supporting bad breeders. But they ARE cute!
Sir Riley I can totally see where you are coming from and on this forum we love all dogs breeds, crosses, hybrids whatever but just cannot see the reason unless accidental why these two totally perfect breeds would be intentionally crossed. There are so many large wirehaired breeds out there that I cannot personally see the reason for it. Just my opinion. Of course they are gorgeous but I am a HUGE Dobie fan so I cannot see the reason to change perfection xx
Sir Riley, you keep saying it was the perfect mix. The perfect mix of what though?! What dobe qualities did it have? What poodle quailities did it have? I just can't see the purpose in crossing the two. What qualities do you want to bring out?! Do you mean Irish Wolfhound when you say IW? I have a very loved Irish Wolfhound, wouldn't change him for anything
PS if it's just a smaller version of a wolfhound you are after, the next best thing would probably be a deerhound rather than a random cross. What problems with IWs do you mean specifically? Any idea if this crossbreed came from health tested parents?
Yes, an Irish Wolfhound. He's not being exchanged for a doodleman either. We all would obviously like a longer life span for our IW. I don't feel you can find it's personality in any other breed, even if it looks like one.
Its not crossbreeds as such....it is designer crossbreeds that people throw together - give a new name and sell for rather a lot of money to unsuspecting people who think they have a 'new' breed. Its not so much the dogs as the irresponsible people.... ETA - just noticed what you have....that is a classic example - I have one in my class at the moment asnd the owners were told that as it is an F1 cross it will not shed....at 18 weeks he is already moulting! THe owners love him now and will not part with him but they are very upset.
We have a first gen goldendoodle here in rescue. She was given up because she moults excessively and severely affected her owners asthma. It's the lies told to sell these dogs that are the issue here, and of course the reasons for breeding them in the first place. Becky
I have three perfect mixes! A German Shepherd - made in Germany, owned by proud mummies. German Shorthaired Pointers . Ditto. And a Hound, who is a cuddle bunny extraordinaire! Probably foxhound/ beagle + There are loads of perfect mixes.... no need to make a living by creating another JMO
