    Hi Claire,

I dont expect anyone to nod "sagely" or agree. As I have already explained "prejudices" are already formed with some. I am merely exposing the total hypocracy.

Maybe you dont agree with the Stats- the insurance companies dont agree with you and they make large sums of money based on reviewing the stats.

Perhaps those who rabbit on about their "superior breeding" should take a little look at their affiliations/registrations?

    Hi Tupac,

On another note- please understand on "recall" Im not having a go at mals or sibes. I think I have explained they are neither "inferior" or "superior". I was accused of saying my dogs recall was "fabulous"- its not- as Ive said numerous times-getting better all the time. My point was to expose the posters hypocracy and prejudice (I keep spelling this word wrong its infuriating!!).

Cats do as they please:grin:

She is indeed Louise, but Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, all of the sled dogs are fairly recent wolf crosses. Your beautiful dogs look wolfy because they are wolfy ... so your Lola deserved her name more than most ... IMO :002:

You may consider I am insulting your beautiful dogs, but I categorically assure you I am paying them the highest compliment I could pay any dog ... to say it looks wolfy.

Did you know that a fox and a dog can mate? The offspring are non-viable of course, being true hybrids and therefore sterile. They are known as "dox" apparently. When my father was young living in Scarrington in Notts. he knew of just such a "dox". He said it was an amiable creature, but when the fox mating season kicked off, it would disappear for a week or two. A friend of mine who lives in Devon also knows of one too, and says it looks exactly like a fox, you would not know it was mixed with dog.

Info on doxes (fox dog hybrids).

"There are no reliable reports or genetic testing that proves the existence of dog-fox hybrids (called dox) although there are many unsubstantiated reports of such hybrids.

An unconfirmed female terrier/fox hybrid was reported, and later euthanized (killed), in the UK. British gamekeeper folklore claims that terrier bitches can produce offspring with male foxes. Other dog breeds claimed to have hybridized with foxes are the Alaskan Malamute, Sheltie, Siberian husky, and most of the hound groups. The supposed hybrids (known as a dox) are likely to be natural variation in the domestic dog.

There has been a reported cross between a domestic dog and a South American Maned Wolf, but the Maned Wolf is only a fox like canid not closely related to other canids and is the only member of the genus Chrysocyon.

In Saskatchewan, Canada there was another supposed dox, this time a female miniature Sheltie with a wild fox. There was a litter of three, but only one survived. The surviving (a female) was barren, and looked like an almost pure fox, with slight variations. However, the variability of dogs in appearance makes it impossible to determine whether an animal is hybrid based on looks. In most reported cases the dox had gold or yellow eyes, wired hair, and with black red and gray hairs covering most of the body."

Maybe, it would seem that only golden jackols can hybridise with dogs. Other jackol subspecies havn't or are unable to do so.

I'm not sure that there is really any doxes, if people who have them arn't willing to have them dna tested, it would suggest that they're not what they're being claimed they are.

There is also reportedly african wild dog, dog hybrids, off to have a look.
