They have apparently bred out the natural aloofness and slight shyness or withdrawn-ness of the wolf. From my own personal experience of meeting many delightful CWDs, I would say I agree with this at least partially. They are still very different from non-wolfy breeds, and I would query whether they are in fact willing to work ?
Dang ! I knew it all along !! I cannot wait to meet one, or several. Trouble is, I just KNOW I shall fall in love even more than I have with Czechies. I think I shall have one of each !! Just need to find me a wealthy man to pay for them
I am totally anti the Kennel Club, and even more totally anti Utonagans or Northern Inuits getting KC recognition. IMO it would be totally disastrous for both breeds ... far better to keep them as the "broad brushstroke" crosses that they are
What !! Has that got anything to do with you? On your second point, I am sure there are many who would like to see Northern Inuits, Utonagans, Tamascans, British Inuits, Uncle Tom Cobley et al gain KC recognition - I am not one of them. As far as I am concerned, KC recognition is the kiss of death because then a prescription has to be followed, and therein lies the disastrous route IMO of inbreeding to create the desired looks. As I said before, vive la difference ! Who wants a dog that looks exactly the same as thousands of others? To take an example of the labrador, as much as I love black labbies, it is very hard to distinguish one from another. A friend of ours has 5, and to me they are all identical. He can tell the difference of course, but I can't. Lovely dogs, all of them, but they are all clones as far as I am concerned ... same looks, same size and same personalities. I love the variety of the crossbreed. And on that note, I shall say goodnight !
They were indeed ... this was almost 30 years ago before I knew any better Heather & Zac ! If you are interested, my bitch was the daughter of Wittekind Gregory who was apparently the bees knees in the GSP world, not that I care or cared a damn about it. I've got my bitch's pedigree somewhere. Nite nite.
Well you were asking me how I can be so "vociferous" in my opinion of people buying crossbreeds but have a Bengal cat? My opinion would be the same as I never paid a penny for my Bengal...AND she is spayed..
Well thanks to the KC at least you knew who the parents were to your KC reg bitch. Can you say the same about Hal?
There should be a difference...but to be honest - it seems that so many people are crossing the CwD's and Swhs with NI/BIs etc that the line is being blurred.
What confuses things even more, is when they're advertised as wolf lookalike hybrids... what, make up your minds already, is it a wolfdog or a wolf lookalike it can't be both.
No not just because they bark at joggers occasionally...but if you include gripping its owners arm etc etc..then thats worrying (oh and BTW no one said they were your dogs..you owned up to it) If you are referring to me lecturing on recall I have never lectured anyone on recall..and my dogs recall is fabulous..there is a video somewhere that will show you this..
Identical labs, thats creepy . Non of mine look or act the same. There different shapes, sizes, one is a different colour, and as far as temperament goes, they're completely different. But then, all of mine are from working stock, not show stock, whitch might go some way to explaining it. Can post some pics if you'd like.
Well its a kinda tricky one Louise as a 'Wolfdog' would be a wolf crossed with a dog or Saarloos or CWD. Crosses of both of those those would also fall into the 'wolfdog' catagory. 'Wolf lookalike' covers everything else, although in saying that 'IF' wolves or wolf crosses were used in the beginning of creating the NI/Ute ect as many people believe then technically they would be 'wolfdogs' too. Did that help or make it worse?
Then i would advise anyone who wants a dog like this grab it quickley as i own this cross and WOW they are great. mine has a wonderfull temperment she has come into a house which also has 3 other dogs 2 gin pigs 1 house rabit and 1 welsh sec d loads of people comming and going, i got her at 20 weeks she has settled really well, and is proving to e a very stable member of our mad family. Thinking on the list of breeders; Julie Yule Karen Clark Loraine Niven Dawn Latham Liz Carr June Clark Eleanor ? Janine Jackie LynnB Who are the three people void of surnames? Thats a bit too vague really, as I could add Billy, Sally and John, if you get what I mean.
