Cross breeds are very special dogs?? so that must mean the dogs that were used to make them are even more special
You have obviously not met my collie - she is THE most special dog in the world Seriously - it always makes me laugh when people say this. Your dog is very special to YOU. In the same way that my dog is special to me. Anyone who has that special relationship will tell you this regardless of the breed of thier dog. The superiority complex comes from the idea that other people cannot understand as they don't have these dogs....do you not see that everyone feels that way about thier chosen breed? I cannot understand why Becky wants so many poodles or Shona with her Rotties (sorry - first names that came to hand!).... I could turn round and say they do not understand my relationship with my dogs as they don't have collies - but I know thats rubbish! They have fantastic bonds and relationships with thier dogs as I do with mine and you do with yours - there is nothing like that feeling when you click with a dog or breed - but it is not specific to the breed - it is specific to you and your dog!
I`ve got 4 special dogs! And one of them`s a Wolfie-looking one AND she`s got a Poodle for a friend. Wow! Think how much I`d get for this cross.
Talking of minature, have you seen the minature sibes in the US? Been around about two + years now...
Mini husky, I thought that was the alaskan klee kai. But thats been arround for more than 2 years. Anyway back to wolf crosses how about: Dalmation x wolf (wolfamation/dalmawolf). You could charge extra for grey ones with spots, as you could market them as snow leopard variety. Wolferman. Wolfador. Wolfjack. Borderwolf. Rotwolf. Bull wolfstiff. Irish wolf, wolf hound. Sorry, couldn't help it. I don't have a problem with wolfdogs, as some will know, I'd love a cwd or saarloos one day. Its just when they cross them with god knows what with no thought, it gets ridiculas.
Eddie Harrison had a beautiful mastiff/wolf cross bitch when we first met her back in the early-mid 90's. She was huge, and very lovely.
I remember seeing the litter, they had just been born when I went for Tawney and she showed them to me
We must have missed meeting each other at that stage by mere weeks Tawney !! Those pups must have been lovely !
I think sometimes people get a bit defensive because it almost seems sometimes like certain people imply that any one with a wolfy dog breed is stupid or a new age hippy. This then can come across as being superior . . . I fully agree with the rest of the post as sometimes you get a breed and thats it you are hooked.
It was an accidental mating. She was telling me that 'someone' climbed over the top didn't they?? and she turned and looked at the culprit, who looked at his toes and shuffled his feet Gnasher, you were there about 2 years later for Hal, so you would have seen the adult one, when I saw them they were still very tiny. I was there a couple of months before you went for Hal as I took Tawney back for Eddy to see her
She was magnificent. I shall never forget her. We had arrived at the farmhouse, gone round the back, not sure where to go. There was this yard with a gate with one of those vertical bar thingies that you pull sideways to open the gate. I was just in the process of doing this when this massive beast leaped up with an almighty woof which almost knocked me off my feet ! She was huge, her head was twice the size of mine ! I was just in the process of stroking her when Eddie appeared !
That's a good description Tawneywolf ! I am a large girl, 5' 8", strapping sort of lass, but this bitch's head was twice the size of mine and when she reared up over the top of that gate, the breath from her "woof" blew me off my feet !! Slight exaggeration of course, but she was very much in your face, but totally lovely. We had our very small for her age daughter with us, then aged about 8, and she was straight up on that gate patting her and cooing over her. We were sort of submerged under other dogs, but the Mastiff definitely remained on top. It is a memory that has never been erased by time over the past 14 or 15 years.
I agree....but it is sadly partially true. Many people jumped on that bandwagon...(bit like the doodle thing) and the wrong people have ended up with the dogs. However - it is wrong to tar everyone with the same brush. My mother would love one of these dogs, but she will not purchase a pup - she is waiting for the right rescue to turn up.....sadly the one that we found today was a bit old...
