Hi everyone
Just to let all you British Inuit, Northern Inuit and not forgetting Wolf Look A Likes owners know, i am Very proud to-day as my British Inuit Sakari bred by Andre Tanner became the the first British Inuit in the U.K to become an operational SAR dog, Sakari is 22 months and has passed her assessement with flying colours. So a big thank you to my girl Sakari for getting me through the day she was a super star
all in all TRUST YOUR DOG!!!

Forgot to ask, as I'm interested in SAR work, what do the dog and handler have to do in the assessment?

You have to find anything from 1-10 missing people who have been put out by assessors. you have to tell them when your dog is working scent then your dog has to find a the misper come back alert to you then take you back into the misper.
You have to do thid in 45mins over 2 k area. hope this makes sense.

Are there different levels? Someone told me about a dog that had passed SAR 3 (or 4) can't remeber which

That is correct there is level 1,2,3
1=trainee
2=hasty
3=area

hasty is what we have just passed.
area is next that is 1-10 mispers over a larger area deeper into wood etc over a longer lenght of time. Although it stated 1-10 mispers it`s normally 2 or 3 . same as hasty.
level 3 is more on how the handler does than the dog but again they must find all mispers alert and refind.

Some dogs are better at area than hasty as some will range, Sakari will do area next as she ranges well but i still have loads to learn.

Does your dog have to pass a sheep test (ie to ignore the woollies) prior to starting the training?

Will you be undertaking urban or mountain rescue searches?

All very interesting I am currently teaching my GSD, Yogi, to track and search for people and he is showing a real aptitude for it, according to our trainer! I just enjoy watching him work and find it great fun too!

Yes they have to do a stock test
We do lowland searching woods open area`s
It will be a little while before i do my level3 as i have so much more to learn but thanks anyway.
